Hi,
That’s my first entry for this blog and also It’s my first
blog too, that’s why I’m a little excited. I hope, you’ll like it.
I want to
write my first impressions about the book called "Holes", which I'm supposed to read in three
weeks. At first I considered this book as a children's book. I thought it would have been boring for me, but I have
to say it wasn’t like, how I
expected. The plot is really original. A group
of children dig holes everyday. I’m sure it’s an unusual theme in a children's book. The author Louis Sachar
must be a creative man.
The protogonist
of the book Stanley Yelnats is a very unlucky boy ,who is sent
to the Camp Green Lake juvenile detention center for a crime which he didn’t
commit. He is forced there to dig holes everyday. He believes that, these all are because
of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather(this name makes me laugh, everytime I read it), whose curse
has been in this family for generations. When something bad happens to him ,he says that he is in wrong
place in wrong time and these all
are because of the curse of his great
great grandfather. I’m not sure there has been curses in real world, but there is a fact. Don’t we prefer to
blame the others to take responsibility?
Besides the Stanley’s story, the local history of Camp Green Lake and Stanley’s family tales are told throughout
the story. Step by step everything starts to fit together. That’s what I liked
in this story. I feel like, I’m an
investigator in CSI and trying to find out, what is really going on.
